The Skyline R33 Pick up build

R33 Skyline PICKUP truck. the fun project :)

Building this as a daily user and a bit of fun.
Not going to be in a hurry, just to fill in time between jobs that make the wages.
Been thinking about doing this for ages, realy thought a 33 with the back cut off would look shite but, well you judge….
Next step brace it up with a cage, then strengthen the rear end with box section, once it is all braced up we will remove the rear subframe and fuel tank.
Then remove this lump so the pick up bed will be a lot lower.
Sheet tacked on ready to be shaped to the back, will cut a window hole once it is all shaped up and welded in place.

Have to say a huge thanks to Scott who works for me, he loves fabrication and has made a superb job so far.
I wanted to leave the cab stripped out but he wanted to put all the trim back in so he cut holes in the floor to drop the cage down, cut and fitted all the standard trim back in, jacked the cage back up and welded it in place.
The cage is so tight against the trim, looks perfect.
I have found a smashed up 33 with a 400bhp + engine, coilovers etc etc so once it gets here we will have all the mechanicals to build it in to a fairly powerful pick up.
Once the fabrication is done on the back end we are going to drop the rear subframe and fuel tank out, then cut out the hump on the floor to make the bed flat. Think we are going to use a 32 gtr fuel tank as it lies flat under the boot floor, will probably cut the boot floor out and fabricate a new boot floor to take the tank, spare wheel and battery.

Havent updated for a while, been to busy digging our way in to and out of the workshop (mega snow up here) oh and bunking off work to ski The bulk head is just about finished, added a bar across the roll cage to anchor full harnesses.

Cut away the hump in the back, will be able to lower the bed in the back 3-4 inches once the tank is out, next job drop out the rear subframe and tank then cut the hump out, not touching any of the chassis legs, there is lots of strength under the rear floor (cross chassis bar) but we are going to add another one in to give more strength and be part of the frame to hold the floor that will be on the bed.

I am after a pair of black fia seats and harnesses, I have a nice twin plate clutch in the for sale section I can do a deal with, also need front and rear lower adjustable arms if anyone can help

Also sortd out the wireing harness, bit of a headache as this shell is a V-spec so it has a one off harness to run the funky rear diff, Put in a full harness from a spec 1, no abs, no air bags and non V-Spec, running a spec 2 engine but the spec 2 engine harness plugs in to this one so no problem.

I now have a 400bhp RB25 to go in, apexi power fc, BeeR limiter, RB25 box, GTR rear end (diff, shafts, hubs etc) and Brembo brakes, so most of the ingredients are here just need loads of time to put it all together.

Took this lot out today, check out the V spec diff, very unusual in a 33GTS-T

Gtr stuff to build up

GTR diff built up in to a GTS case, GTS prop input, 6 bolt GTR outputs, solid.

Funky diff I didnt even know I had ! Bonus

Boot floor and hump cut out

Start of the framework for the new flat floor.

Put the rear end back in, brakes etc, stuck a set of rims on to see what it looks like, needs to be dumped on the floor !!!

More pictures, R32 GTR rear over fenders hmmm mabey

More framework

Spare wheel holder

Seam welding everything, its going to be strong !

Hole for fuel tank, going to frame and box it

Alloy checkerplate to make the floor and sides

Pushed it outside today to tidy up, so a couple of pictures in the daylight

Fitted the ac unit and brake pipes, de-greased everything, built engine up and dropped it in the hole.

Sorry about small pictures, copied from my facebook

Engine bay de-greased

Roof line looked dodgey so a bit of adjustment

De-greased

Noise maker

Gay led lights

Steering oil cooler

Space for the alloy fuel tank etc

Flying bunny !

Noisey part fitted

Better offset

All the wiring tucked away, space for the battery

Update from today
Clutch/flywheel fitted
Gearbox/prop in/on
Exhaust fitted
Spent most of the day looking for nuts and bolts (bits of this car all over the workshop)

Starting to look like a car again, spec 2 front end

Found a low spoiler so messing about with it

FMIC and Superspark coilpacks

Z32 maf, hi flow air filter and boost controler

550cc injectors

Made a heat shield to protect the spare wheel, finished the tailgate/chopped boot lid.
Started on the checkerplate

A little more done today

Well it took some doing but thats the back checker plated out apart from the top rail plates.
Done a load of jigsaw blades and cut some canny chunks out of the kitchen table but the end result was worth it.

Put the stock full interior back in (want comfort for the daily grind )
Not entirely happy with the fit of the dash around the cage so probably going to take it all out and try again (pain in the ass!!)

Lowered as promised

Fuel tank in, car running sweet as a nut now

Swirl pot and 2nd GTR pump in place so no fuel surge

2 x extremely comfy Driftworks seats on low mount rails, cheers

2 x SRS FIA harrnesses, cheers Gander And fire wall carpeted

A few toys and antique radio cassette

Took it home ready for mot today, so much fun to drive

MOT passed, air con re gassed, tax it 1st July then rip up down town Hexham
